ABOUT ABOUT

The East Point Agricultural Bus Tour will highlight growers and local food/urban agriculture organizations doing on-the-ground work in the City of East Point. Stops include, ArtsXchange, Working Hands Enterprises, Truly Living Well, East Point Farmers Market, CompostNow, and Common Market Southeast.

ArtsXchange (2148 Newnan Street, East Point, GA 30344)
The Southeast Community Cultural Center, which runs ArtsXchange, is a nonprofit, multicultural, multidisciplinary, multi-ethnic, inter-generational arts organization.  It seeks to utilize the arts as a means by which all cultures can come to a truer understanding of themselves and others through shared innovative arts experiences and educational opportunities.  The Center seeks to link arts and artists with the broader community-at-large.

Working Hands Enterprises (927 Reed Avenue, East Point, GA 30344)
Working Hands Enterprises operates WeGrow Community, a CSA that not only grows food, but relationships, self-sustainability, property value, pride, and self-worth in neighborhoods. Working Hands provides free, organic produce to the residents of East Point and is working on engaging communities to convert lawns into growing spaces to increase access to fresh, high-quality food.

Truly Living Well (3353 Washington Road, East Point, GA 30344)
Since its beginning in 2006, Truly Living Well (TLW) has used its expertise to demonstrate how food can be a bridge across diverse cultures, backgrounds, and experiences. Their goal is to use food production as the plate on which they create a culture of health and wellness in their community. TLW grows better communities by connecting people with the land through education, training, and demonstration of economic success in natural urban agriculture. They demonstrate sustainable and economically viable solutions for helping people to eat and live better.

Site of East Point Farmers Market (2757 East Point Street, East Point, GA 30344)
The East Point Farmers Market is an initiative of the East Point Main Street Association and the City of East Point with the support of a large group of volunteers. Their mission is to create a unique experience in the Downtown District for all who shop there, where they will consciously offer fresh food options that are as healthy for the people who eat them as for the ground in which they are grown. The market is held regularly on Wednesdays from 4:00 – 7:00 PM.

Common Market Southeast (1050 Oakleigh Drive, East Point, GA 30344)
The Common Market Southeast is a mission-driven distributor of sustainable, local farm foods. They connect institutions and communities with good food from more than 30 producers located throughout the Southeast, including Alabama, Georgia, Florida, North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee.

CompostNow (1050 Oakleigh Drive, East Point, GA 30344)
CompostNow’s vision is to close the loop on food waste by empowering community members and local businesses to divert their compostables from the landfill and, instead, use those nutrients to build nutrient-rich soil. Closing the loop on food waste is imperative in building healthy soil, creating resilient, local food systems, and fighting climate change.
